Why This Role Matters

MissionHires is seeking a Senior Estimator (Heavy Civil) to lead end-to-end estimating for large private and public works in Southern California, including design-build and alternative delivery projects up to $300M. You’ll drive bid strategy, oversee takeoffs and subcontractor coverage, assess risk, mentor junior estimators, and partner with BD/owners to win competitive pursuits across highways, bridges, underground utilities, grading, paving, and structural work.

How You'll Contribute
  • Lead the complete estimating process for pursuits up to $300M with accuracy and competitiveness
  • Review plans, specifications, geotechnical/soils reports, and site conditions to define scope and constructability
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and ensure DBE and good-faith effort compliance
  • Coordinate estimating teams for bid preparation, subcontractor outreach/coverage, and cost analysis
  • Develop, review, and approve final bid packages prior to submission
  • Identify and evaluate risks/opportunities; prepare risk matrices and report findings to senior leadership
  • Oversee subcontractor bid reviews to confirm scope alignment and resolve gaps or overlaps
  • Lead bid closings and deliver final pricing recommendations
  • Support alternative delivery (design-build, CM/GC, progressive design-build) pursuits and work planning
  • Mentor junior estimators and drive consistency in estimating standards, processes, and templates
  • Partner with business development and maintain strong owner/industry relationships
  • Support post-bid handoff, change order review, and cost-to-estimate performance analysis
  • Promote continuous improvement within estimating tools, workflows, and operations

What Makes You a Great Fit
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field preferred
  • 10+ years of heavy civil estimating experience (highways, bridges, underground utilities, grading, paving, structural)
  • 3+ years of field experience preferred
  • Proven record leading and winning bids up to $300M
  • Proficiency with Bid2Win, Bluebeam, Agtek, SketchUp, and scheduling tools (Primavera P6/SureTrak/MS Project)
  • Strong understanding of phasing, scheduling, and critical path analysis
  • Knowledge of contract terms, insurance requirements, labor agreements, and risk management
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, and clear written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage tight bid deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license
