Why This Role Matters

MissionHires is seeking a licensed Field Engineer (Forensics) to inspect buildings post-catastrophe, determine cause and extent of structural damage, and provide general repair recommendations. You will manage a caseload, conduct on-site assessments, perform data/photo analysis, and contribute to professional engineer reports. The role may involve depositions and court testimony and requires strong time management, technical rigor, and field safety practices.

How You'll Contribute
  • Perform post-catastrophe property damage assessments and issue detailed reports of findings
  • Conduct on-site inspections, collect data, and perform photo/data analysis for engineering reports
  • Provide general repair recommendations based on structural/civil engineering principles
  • Manage project workflow and caseload to meet timely goals and deadlines
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, ethics, and documentation quality
  • Be available for depositions and potential trial testimony
  • Attend industry conferences and seminars to stay current on best practices
  • Operate field equipment safely (ladders, moisture meters, digital levels, harnesses) and follow safety protocols

What Makes You a Great Fit
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in engineering; ABET-accredited civil and/or structural degree preferred, or engineering degree with structural work experience
  • 2–4 years related experience; at least 2 years in construction management or forensic engineering
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; NCEES Record preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, CAD, and web browsers
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical journals, engineering reports, and legal documents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting findings to diverse audiences
  • Solid math skills including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry applied to practical field scenarios
  • Strong analytical and reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Demonstrated time management, multi-tasking, and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Sound civil and structural engineering principles with a solid construction background
  • Ability to regularly perform physical tasks: standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; lift/move up to 50 lbs
  • Comfort working in varied environments including heights, outdoor weather, humid conditions, extreme heat/cold (non-weather), near mechanical parts, fumes/airborne particles, with potential exposure to electrical risk and vibration
  • Access to/ability to use required equipment: laptop (Microsoft Word), phone (desktop IP or cell), digital camera, ladder, moisture meter, digital level, tape measure, rope and harness, and safety gear
